Hvar Boat Tours from Trogir & Split

The island everyone photographs — and the turquoise Pakleni bays beside it

Overview

Hvar is the best-known island in Dalmatia: a marble-paved town under a hilltop fortress, a harbour lined with cafés, and the Pakleni Islands scattered just offshore with some of the clearest water on this coast. It sits about an hour from Trogir by fast boat, which makes it a comfortable full day rather than an overnight trip.

Where is Hvar?

Hvar is a long, thin island south of Brač and Šolta. Hvar Town, at its western end, is roughly 60 minutes by speedboat from Trogir and a little more from Split. The Pakleni Islands lie a few minutes further, directly opposite the harbour.

Hvar Town

The old town is compact and walkable: St Stephen's Square in white marble, the cathedral at its head, and the Spanish Fortress above with the whole archipelago laid out below. The harbour promenade is where the island's reputation comes from — busy, glossy and worth seeing once.

The Pakleni Islands

The real swimming is offshore. Palmižana on Sveti Klement has a sheltered bay and a couple of famous konobas; the smaller islets around it hold quiet coves that only reach by boat. This is the part most day trips underrate.

How SeaExplore visits Hvar

Good to know

Hvar — frequently asked questions

How far is Hvar from Trogir or Split?
Roughly 60 minutes by speedboat from Trogir, a little more from Split. It is comfortably a full-day trip rather than a half-day.
What is there to do on Hvar?
Walk the marble old town, climb to the Spanish Fortress for the view over the Pakleni archipelago, then swim in the Pakleni bays — the clearest water is offshore, not in the town.
What are the Pakleni Islands?
A chain of small wooded islands directly opposite Hvar Town, with sheltered coves and clear water. Palmižana on Sveti Klement is the best-known bay, with restaurants ashore.
Which SeaExplore tour goes to Hvar?
The private Hvar & Pakleni Islands charter — €1,200 per boat for up to 12 guests, about eight hours. Hvar Town is also a stop on the Blue Cave & 5 Islands day.
Is Hvar worth it as a day trip?
Yes, if you split the day. Give the town an hour or two and spend the rest in the Pakleni bays — that is where the swimming is, and where the crowds are not.
